"Dana..Scully I mean, where are you?" Mulder slipped and called her Dana at work. "At the doctors. Ummm..you better get down here." "Why?! What is it?? You ok?? I gotta..im gonna..shit..ill be right there!!!" he says flying out the door. He flew into Emergency, and straight to the Triage Nurse. "Im here looking for Dana Scully." "Hang on a second please sir," she says looking Dana's name up. "Yes, shes right in the back. Are you Fox Mulder?" "Yes I am." "Good she's been expecting you, and so has half the staff. We just cant get her to sit still. Its all unexpected for sure. Impossible really.Maybe you can calm her down." "Ill try, but I sure wish I knew what you were talking about." Mulder says confused. "You dont know? Well, you better get in there then." she says opening the door to Exam room 4. Dana jumps into Fox's arms, hugging him, smothering his face with kisses."Oh Fox..Isnt it wonderful??" She is just aglow with happiness. He hasnt seen her this radiant, since told her Cancer was in remisssion. "What are you talking about??" Just then Margaret runs into Dana's room."Oh my God! Dana honey, what is it? Are you OK? Are the nosebleeds back?" "No Mom, its just.." Dana is cut off by another Nurse and a big machine coming in to her room. "Excuse me everyone, I need to examine Ms.Scully again." a technichian says as he comes in. Fox is getting shoved further and further out of Dana's reach by the Umpteen hundred people shooting in and out of her room. She pleads to him with her eyes, she needs him there, but he and Margaret are being slowly squeezed out. Fox's pleas of "Excuse me please." and "Wait I need to talk with her." were going unanswered.His patience growing thin, and the look on Dana's face made him lose all control, and any rational left in his ability to be calm. He suddenly screams"OK EVERYONE OUT!!!EVERYONE OUT! EVERYONE BUT ME, AND DANA!" Mulder's outburst quieted the room quickly, as all eyes turn to stare at the edgy man. Dana is giggling and having a hard time trying to look serious, through strained "uhumphs" as she clears her throat. She cant help herself, and starts to giggle. Margaret leans over to Fox and says,"Even me Fox?" "Give me just a minute alone with Dana, please Mrs.Scully? Please, everyone, just a minute." Margaret throws him an apprehensive look. She leaves slowly only saying,"I'll be right outside, Right here." "I'll be just a minute Mrs.Scully, I promise. Im sorry." "Its OK Fox."Margaret says, but the look on her face shows Fox, shes hurt, and damn worried. 'Better see what this is all about quick' Fox thinks to himself. Mulder closes the door, as Dana bursts out laughing. He turns to her, and the look on his face stiffles her laugh.He is dead serious. Worried.Almost frantic. He walks over to her, and sits on her bed, staring into her eyes."What the hell, is ALL this about? Is it the cancer?" "No..I.." "Did you have another bloody nose?" he questions her. "No Fox..I.." "Then why have me rush down here?" "If you'de shut up for half a second and listen ill tell you dammit!" She yells, growing impatient herself now. "OK..what is it?? You have my curiosity up."He jumps up. "You think that peaks your curiosity, wait till you hear this." "What?What? What already?" Fox says, noticing the look on her face. "You better sit down."She pats the bed next to her. "Oh shit, dont like the sound of that." He says sitting slowly next to her again."Bad news?" "Au contraire, It is the best news, I have ever heard."She covers her mouth, and blushes like a schoolgirl, trying to hold back the grin building inside her. "Well come out with it already! You have me worried..What is it?" "Well..you know how ummm "close" weve gotten in the last few months?" "Yeaaaaah, AND?" "And you know how we always use protection?" "Yeahhhh..sooo?" Whew I thought you were going to tell me...."he pauses for a minute,looks at her,"Say that again?" "Im pregnant." Dana beams threw a radiant smile. Margaret Scully hears someone scream "OH MY GOD!WOW!!!", threw the door. She is more than worried now..shes fretfull!! She opens the door to find Dana and Fox in a long passionate embrace, buried deep into a kiss."Ooops, excuse me." She says trying to back out of the door. If it was bad news, They wouldnt be THIS happy. It eased her nerves. "No, Mom, please, come in. We have something to tell you." "No, ive interupted, Im sure whatever you have to tell me can wait." "Oh no you dont Grandma, get in here and have a seat." Fox says hinting at thier secret. "Ok, If you two insist. Ok..what is it you need to tel.."She also pauses,"Fox? Why did you just call me Grandma?" "Isnt that what you call a mother who's daughter is having a baby?" "Well yes of course, but Bill isnt my daughter. Fox? Are you OK?" she says feeling his head. "Im wonderful Mrs.Scully." he says blushing, glancing at Dana, whos trying hard not to giggle again. "Mom, Fox is fine. Hes just having hard time accepting, that hes going to be a father." All the worry and rush to get down here, had her confused. But suddenly it hit her...she understood...she was seeing the light. "Dana? Fox?" she says,looking at the two of them grinning >from ear to ear."It cant be?" "It is..Im pregnant Mom!"Dana bounces on the bed a little giddy. "Dana ,honey ,thats wonderful! But how? How did this happen?"Margaret says still confused. "Gosh Mom, and I thought you were the one that was supposed to explain the birds and bees to me." "Very Funny. Fox? I take it this is your fault?" "Guilty." he says hanging his head, waiting for Margaret to pelt him. They were after all Catholic. Margaret kisses him full on the lips, then kissed Dana too shouting "ITS A MIRACLE!!! Praise be to GOD! I cant believe it! I need to call your brother Bill, and Charles, they are going to be so excited!" "Mom, mom,calm down mom!" Dana is confused." Dont just yet, please?" "But whatever for honey?" "I want to be sure...be sure..im going to be able to keep it first." "What?" "We dont know how this happened, Mrs.Scully." "Now who's got to explain to whom the birds and the bees?"Margaret jokes. "Not me." Mulder says smiling proudly! "Obviously," she quips,"but why wont you be able to keep it?" It felt fantastic to touch her stomach, and know there was life within it. "What?" Fox whispers,"What doyou mean you cant marry me?" "Not just becuase of this," She says taking his hand and placing it on her belly.She decides to let him off the hook." I'll marry you, but only becuase I love you."Fox jumps up and kisses her softly on the lips, then turns to face Margaret, who's crying watching all this transpire. "What do you say Mrs.Scully? Do we have your blessing?" "Of course you do Fox," she says hugging him,"Im so happy. Its Bill youre going to have to ask though." "Mom???" Dana says jumping up. "Relax Honey, I was only Joking. Lighten up dear!Oh well, for one day, for one second, Im not going to ask any questions, about how, or what. I am just glad, Im going to be a grandmother again! And Ill keep myself busy making plans for the wedding!No minister ,No No, not for my daughter.Im so happy! I get to plan a wedding.Soon,itll have to be soon, of course." While Margaret is off in her "Wedding and a Baby" grandmothersphere, ratteling incestantly to herself about colors and "the date should be soon, we dont want to have to let your dress out. OH! Dana and Fox, cuddle up to each other on her bed, fingers entertwined,both of thier hands lying protectively over thier creation. A knock on the door makes Fox jump and and answer it."Hi Mom! come in, come in please!" "Hi Mrs.Mulder."Dana says smiling at her sweetly. "Hello Dana.Are you two OK? Whats this all about Fox?" "Mom, sit down. I need to tell you something.WE need to tell you something."Fox says putting his arm around dana. "What? Fox? Please? Im too old for surprizes." "Not this time. I think youre gonna love this." "Out with it Fox William."His Mother demands. "Dana and I, are having a baby." he just blurts out, smiling at his Mom intently. "A Baby? Fox?" his mother just stares at them for a moment,"Well thats wonderful! Im going to be a grandmother, Finally!!!Oh, im so happy for you!" he says as she hugs Dana. "Well be getting married to Mom.But we dont know when just yet." "A baby.Isnt that something."She was off in her own grandmothersphere."That is something." Margaret joins the three of them, after she realizes shes talking to herself, just too overjoyed to leave yet!The four of them laugh and talk an hour away before a quiet knock comes to the door. "Mr.Mulder? Can we please come in now?" an orderly, who was designated to confront the angry man in Exam room 4 says. All four burst out laughing, as Fox sweeps his hand to the side. "Be my Guest, but dont expect me to leave anytime soon." A man walks in, with a big machine, and throws Dana's smock back, smearing her belly with smily, clear,goo. "Oooo, thats cold!" she snaps. "Sorry Maam," the technician says,"Itll warm up." All of a sudden,a flash of bright white Doctors coat comes shooting into the room.It was Dr.Newhouser! "OK, lets see this little miracle!" Dr.Newhouser, the doctor that treated her bleeding nose in the beggining says, flashing that gleaming smile again. Fox could have sworn he saw his teeth glimmer when he smiled. Dana was sure they did. "Dr.Newhouser!" Dana says gleefully! "Hya Agent Dana, how are we tonight?" Dana giggles, "We." she says outloud, looking down at her gooey belly. Dr.Newhouser looks over to Fox, throwing his thumb over his shoulder, pointing to Mulder. "I thought we had an agreement Dana, I treat your aches and pains, and you leave the goons at the FBI?" he jokes with her. "Its OK, Doc, Meet Fox Mulder. My main Goon." "We've met before. Nice to see you." Fox says shaking his hand. "Are you the father?" he smiles at him. "Yes I am."Fox says beaming broadly about his verility. "Good. Just promise me ,with a Mom and Dad like you two, the baby wont attend Quantico until at least the age of 18.You promise that, and I'll make sure this little one has a fantastic head start." "Deal." Dana says, winking at the Doctor. "Good. I need to take a look at your Uterus, Dana. We want to make sure what we think is going on, is for real. Your ready to accept it may be more than a pregnancy, correct?" Dana, not liking his tone, but understanding why he said that, nods and agrees. "I understand certain medical situations cam mimmick a pregnancy ..yes..but for some reason, Im sure its not." Fox, confused by what she said leans over to her and whispers,"What does that mean?" "Certain tumors and medical conditions can give you a flase positive for pregnancy, It can even mimmick morning sickness, and all that is associated with pregnancy."She explains, as Fox's grin fades for a fleeting moment. He regains his smile, and just takes her hand, not saying a word. "Well, what do you say, we take a look and listen." Dr.Newhouser says excitedly. He runs the probe over Dana's very flat stomach, as a little noise came over the PA. To Fox, it sounded like waves crashing into the shore, repetively,in a sequence even.He looked over to Dana, whos eyes were overflowing with joyful tears. Fox, didnt understand her tears, and started to question her. "Dana, honey, What is it? Why are you crying? Is that bad news, that sound?"He looked worried. She threw her arms around Fox's neck, pulling him in close. "NO silly,"she says between tears,"that is OUR baby's heartbeat." "Heartbeat? Really?The baby's?A heartbeat?" "Really...I cant..I cant believe this..Yes Fox, a heartbeat!" she is overwhelmed by tears. "Its the baby's heartbeat! Oh my god!" Fox is manic and runs to the door, grabbing a helpless passing nurse by the arm dragging her in the room."Its the baby's heartbeat!" he tells her and hugs her. "Yes it is sir! Congradulations!" the befuzzled nurse says, as another nurse takes her aside to explain. "Ok everybody, gather round!" Dr.Newhouser shouts, as they all draw close to the TV screen."Lets see here.."he pauses.Dana squeezes Fox's hand.he squeezes back."Hmmm.OK..this here"he points to a little round thing,"thats the baby's head,and this thing here,the little beating thing, is your baby's heart." Dana and Fox stare at the TV screen before them, both in awe of thier creation.There in black and white, live and in person, is the new little stranger.Another little miracle.THIER BABY. "Looks to me, your about 13 weeks. makes the baby due in early Feburary.At least you wont be big and pregnant when its hot." the Doctor says, smiling. The Doctor removes the device and Fox's head darts up,"What happened? Where did it go?" "I took the probe off Mr.Mulder." the doctor says. "May I?" Fox says reaching for the thingy, and rubbing it across Danas belly. "Be my guest Mr.Mulder. Be My Guest."The doctor says laughing,"Chris, when they are done with that, see it gets back to the Ultrasound department."He leans over,"No more than 5 more minutes please." "Will do Doc." he says, clearing everyone out of the room, then closing the door silently.Dana and Fox linger in the sound of thier babys heart beating, and watching it move on the TV screen."Look, it just moved!"Dana would cry out! Dana was now covered in so much goo from Fox wanting to listen again, she felt weighted down. Margaret, to overjoyed to speak, stares silently at her daughter, and the TV screen. She is facinated by all the wonder that is being in love. And wished Ahab was here to see it.She silently asked him to watch over and protect thier daughter and thier new grandbaby, from wherever he was.' We miss you Ahab.' she thought silently. Margaret stands silently on the other side of the bed, listening to her new grandbaby's heartbeat, saying a prayer. She thanks god for giving Dana another chance at life, another person to love, and another chance at a life love, that was all her own. Her Second Chance. Her First and only Love.
