She had, for once in her life, taken the afternoon off work, and had decided to spend it doing some serious shopping. Scully sighed to herself as she realised that she hadn't had an afternoon like this since she began working on the X-files. `Geez.' she murmered to herself,`what has happened to my life?' It was true; Scully had been on roughly two dates in almost five years of working with her partner, Fox Mulder. But then she doubted he had much of a social lif either. As Scully set off through the mall, carrying several bags of goodies, she caught a glimpse of herself in the glass of a shop window and stopped. In her own reflection, Scully suddenly saw herself as a woman, nearing thirty. She took in her image; considering the conservative Navy-blue tracksuit she was wearing, which was what her wardrobe seemed to consist solely of thesedays. Taking in her light auburn hair, in a shoulder length, and very average style, Scully let out another sigh. She wouldn't exactly stick out in a crowd.Recently, Scully had been doing a lot of thinking, mainly dissatisfied thoughts about her appearance. "Time for a change." she said aloud, as her sharp, blue eyes pinpointed the window of ' A Cut Above- Hairstylists." * * * * * Special Agent Fox Mulder trotted up the stairs leading up from his basement office and into the corridor above, heading towards the FBI cafeteria. A donut and a cappucino would go down nicely on a thursday morning, he thought to himself. He had missed breakfast to come into work early, and now felt he should catch up on things. "Yeeeks!" Mulder let out a high-pitched, almost girly cry, as he ran into his partner along the corridor. Or at least he thought it was his partner. "Who ever tou are, tell me-" he began, with a deadly serious expression, "The aliens who snatched away my partner- where'd they go?" A very blonde Scully looked back at him from beneath arched eyebrows. She was not amused. As she continued to march down the corridor towards their offfice, arms folded, Mulder turned to watch her retreat. "D'OH!" he said in his best Homer Simpson voice, and his face lapsed into a mischievous grin, before he scuttled after her to make amends. "Seriously, though, Scully," he said, catching up with his partner, "Yor hair looks great." Scully turned her head towards her partner to judge from his expression whether or not he was sincere. " Do you think so?" she asked , cautiously. Mulder looked at her, with all earnesty showing on his face, determined to make his partner feel better. He continued; "Yeah. I..I think the, er the pink streak. I think it's a great touch." "Mmmm." Scully grunted, and they left it at that, returning to their office to begin to sort out their filing system. * * * * * Sitting on the floor, files spread out around them, Mulder found himself gazing at Scully's newly blonde hair. It made her look different; chanded her face somehow. He contemplated this for a while. He thought it made her look like a cross between Meg Ryan and; he thought some more, and probably Tea Leoni. Mmmm...he liked this knew Scully. Glancing up from her work, Scully caught her partner, his eyes fixed on her hair for the umpteenth time that morning. Mildly irratated, she frowned. " Mulder; will you quit staring at me?" "Uh...yeah, good idea." Mulder replied, absently, without moving his eyes from her silky hair. Scully's frown deepened. "I said, quit looking at my hair." Mulder's head jeked up, and he finally noticed his partner's displeasure, " Oh, um, sorry." He looked down at the floor in embarrasment, and the pair fell into an uncomfortable silence. Mulder thought to himself. he had always cared a lot about his partner; hell, he'd been devastated when he'd thought he'd lost her, nearly three years ago, and during the time sh'ed had cancer, he had longed to be able to comfort her more. But this, new look; it threw a whole new light onto his partner's character. "Um, Scully," He finally broke the silence. "Hmmmm." "Are you busy tonight?" Scully raised her head and looked questioningly at Mulder, "It's just that I thought you might like to catch a movie or something." Mulder felt awkward in his request. Scully thought fast. She knew she wanted to accept his offer, and at the same time, she knew she shouldn't. She smiled, shyly at her partner, "Thankyou. I'd like that." * * * * * Mulder had picked Scully up from her appartment at about 7:30, wearing tight blacktrousers, low-cut black top and lots of silver jewellery, and as he glanced up from the road to look at her, he had to admit, she looked hot. Despite this, Mulder was strangely puzzled by one thing. "Scully...uh..Dana? Can I ask you; why did you dye your hair?" Scully looked at him and blushed slightly. She steeled herself for his ridicule as she looked him squarely in the eye. "Because blondes have more fun." THE END. (Yipeee!) Thanks for getting this far. Sorry our favourite agents were a little out of charachter her. As I said before- if you've got any advice for me (especially on the ending) E-mail me at IMLOUGH@AOL.com.
