Let me know what you think. ****************************************************************** Behind Closed Doors By: Lisha Millett (Jabrwalki@aol.com) 11/11/95 Part 6 Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. "Hello?" Mulder laid with the phone to his ears for several minutes before he realized that it was the alarm clock that was ringing. Bang! Crash! beeeeeeeoooop. The Clock put up a good fight but it was Fox Mulder who stood triumphant in the glow of the pleading digits of his Sharp 'wake five different ways' alarm and cassette player with doze and stereo sound. "That'll teach ya to wake me up during a great nightmare that would have delved deep into my psyche." He dropped the clock back onto the end table and wiped the rest of the sleep from his eyes. "This is going to be one hell of a da....deja vu? Give it up Mulder, you're beginning to spook me." He smiled sarcastically to himself and headed for the bathroom for relief. Less than an hour later he was pulling into the underground garage of the Federal Bureau of Investigations building. Whistling a nonsense tune to himself, sure that it was some obscure showtune that he had picked up as a kid. His mom loved those things, Oklahoma was her favorite. "That's it! 'Surrey with a fringe on top'." "Whistling showtunes Mulder? I'm going to have to call the men in white jackets if you keep that up." Dana Scully sat behind the desk of the cramped office, staking claim to the best seat in the house. "You're just jealous cause I can whistle and you can't." He tore off his overcoat and just dropped into the chair across from her. Sitting on the corner of the desk leering at her. "You caught me sheriff, no one can pucker and blow as well as you can. It's pucker envy at its worst." Her glasses were too low on her nose making her appear like an old librarian he once knew. He loved women with intelligence and blue eyes. Dana batted a thousand in his book. She peered at him, over the rims, "Mulder, can I help you find something to do?" "Actually I was wondering if you'd care to join me for lunch. Someplace dark and preferably on the sleazy part of town." He loved it when her mouth dropped open like it just did. "Relax Scully, it's not what your naughty little mind is thinking. I may have a lead on our friend Dennis Franks." "Franks? You did again Mulder, in the span of three minutes you've completely lost me in the middle of a conversation in which I played a major part." She slipped her glasses off and rubbed her eyes, stretched and put both feet on the desk. Now if she were just wearing a skirt. Mulders cheeks flushed at what his mind was thinking and he looked away to gather his thoughts. "Dennis Franks, you know the man leaving broken brokers all over Richmond." His pun was not in vain, she smiled. "You've managed to place a name to our nefarious friend." She leaned over the desk and rested her head on her palms. "I may have found his name but I never would have thought of nefarious. You're a pretty good partner, I think I'll keep you around." He slipped off the desk, trying to avoid her scent, it was more intoxicating than a double shot of whiskey. "Have you booked a flight to Richmond?" She stood and stretched a little more before pouring herself a cup of coffee. "A flight? Scully this is the nineties, I was kinda hoping to drive into Richmond. It's only a couple hours away and Franks has no idea we're on to him." "You haven't told Skinner have you." Dana watched his eyes fall just slightly, his little boy way of showing he'd been caught. "How were you going to explain our absences to him..." "Already got it covered. I figured we'd take the company car downtown, leave it parked in an obvious place, sort of an open invitation. Then we take your car into Richmond, pick up Franks and be back in town before Skinner can turn his roladex. Then we call in the car being stolen and or stripped, we get a reprimand and a commendation in the same breath." He inhaled as though he hadn't taken air in a week. "How often do you have these delusional episodes Mulder." It was a statement rather than a question. "You honestly think we can pull this off.?" That was definitely a question. "No, but I like to see how far I can push you before I get a reaction." He was too playful today, she wasn't sure if she should be relieved or worried. She'd figure it out later, on the drive to Richmond. ********************************************************************* I can't wait to see what happens next!!!
