Title: Alternate Realities Author: Elli Katz Category: General Spoilers: Took some of it from the pilot ep Rating: PG? Disclaimer: The characters of Fox Mulder and Dana Scully are not mine, they belong to Chris Carter, 1013, and FOX. Blah, blah, blah. Author's Note: Really short self-imposed writing exercise. I took a scene from the pilot ep and added stuff, put in thoughts, basically changed the emotions. ********************************************* Alternate Realities by Elli Katz XFMulder42@aol.com ********************************************* The swift, staccato knocks at the door roused him. He opened the door and found a disheveled Dana Scully on the step, dressed in a terry bathrobe. "Hi," he said, surprised. "I want you to look at something," she said immediately. "Come on in." She came in just past him and waited until he had shut the door and turned around before turning her back to him. She seemed to fold into herself for a second, almost as if she was afraid . . . Then she straightened, took a deep breath and . . . slipped out of her robe. Mulder drew in a quick, soft breath, almost a gasp, and felt his eyes widen slightly. She twisted her head around and pointed to a spot on her lower back. He knelt and lifted the candle to look at it. Three small bumps in a rough triangle. He swallowed the sudden feeling of fear and and raised his hand. Her skin felt cool and smooth under his fingers. "What are they?" she asked, a note of fear in her usually calm voice. He ran his thumb over two of the marks and suddenly realized what they were. "Mulder, what are they?" A grin of pure relief plastered itself on his face. "Mosquito bites," he said. "Are you sure?!" she cried, shrugging on her robe. "Yeah, I got eaten up alive myself out there." The breath was knocked out of him as she rushed into his arms. Her body felt so light and vibrant against his; it was like an electric shock of pure pleasure. He stopped cold for a second, and a premonitory vision overcame him; images of years spent together, working together, placing complete trust and faith in each other, feeling joy and sorrow, pain and pleasure . . . He shivered, knees trembling slightly, aware now of nothing except this marvelous woman and the feeling of utter, absolute joy that she was holding him - and that she was allowing him to hold her. He buried his face in her hair, inhaling the sweet fragrance of strawberries that hung about her, letting himself be swept away by this pure sensory delight. The instant seemed to last forever, and yet was over far too quickly. She began to move away, he released her instantly from his comforting embrace. "Are you ok?" he asked her tenderly. "Yes." She glanced up and flashed a wan smile at him. "You're shaking," he murmured. "I need to sit down." "Take your time." Take all the time you need. end
